Encouraging Young Hearts to Memorize Scripture

At StandingFree, we believe in the power of hiding God’s Word in our hearts from an early age. That’s why we created the Standing on the Word Scholarship—a special opportunity for children ages 4–10 to memorize and recite 15–20 verses word-perfect at a StandingFree event.

Scholarship Details

  • Children who recite 15–20 verses word-perfect at a StandingFree event will receive:

    • A Certificate of Achievement

    • A $100 reward

  • If two young people share the scripture passage, they will each receive $50.

How to Participate

How to Help Your Child Memorize Scripture

Moms and dads, this will require your consistent dedication for several weeks, but the results will be life-changing! Here are some tips to make scripture memory simple and effective:

  • Use Repetition & Read Aloud

    • Print 5–7 copies of the scripture passage. Place them:

      • In your purse

      • Under your child’s pillow

      • On the fridge

      • In your Bible

      • In your husband’s pocket

    • Read the passage 4 times a day for three weeks to your child.

    • Encourage them to repeat after you and eventually read it themselves.

  • Make It a Priority

    • Show your child this is important by devoting time to it each day.

    • If they can read, have them follow along and read it back to you.

  • Prepare for Public Recitation

    • Encourage clear and confident speaking.

    • Have them stand, make eye contact, and practice holding a pretend microphone.

    • Remind them to speak without wiggling and to enunciate each word perfectly.
